I have heard about detox diet, protein diet, gluten free diet, low calories diet, etc. How can I know what suits me better?

There is not a single type a diet that suits you more than another, it all depends of your age, height, gender, initial weight, daily activity and your health case and conditions. Usually, it is better to follow a diet that contains all food groups to get your daily needs of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Visit your dietitian, do the body composition analysis machine test, show her your blood test results if any, give her an idea about your health and diet history, and she will definitely help you to get the right diet for your case.

I have heard about a blood test done in dietitians’ clinics, what is really about?

Food detective blood test measures IgG antibodies of certain food groups linked to inflammatory conditions in your body, manifesting in a range of health issues. It helps treat and reduce symptoms of migraine, bloating, diarrhea, fatigue, water retention and weight control problems. Unlike food allergy tests, food intolerance test detects reactions that are usually delayed and symptoms that may take several days to appear.

Should I do some physical activity with my diet or after I remove my excess body fat?

I advise you to practice some cardio exercises with your diet regimen, it will help you lose weight faster since it increases your metabolism and reduces your stress level. Some muscle toning exercises are also recommended to maintain your muscle mass and tighten your skin. However, if you are extremely overweight, I advise you to practice moderate to light exercise in order not to add more stress on your joints. Swimming and low intensity walking would be the best choices. 

Does cold water makes you fatty and hot water dissolves your body fat?

Cold water increases your energy expenditure and helps you lose weight. In fact, your body burns more calories to warm it to its temperature. Don’t forget to start your day with 2 cups of cold water; you can add to it a squeeze of lemon and some fresh ginger cubes.

Does brown sugar contains less calories then the white one?

Brown & white sugars have the same amount of calories. What differs is the color; the brown color is due to the presence of molasses inside. Watch out your sugar intake anyway, especially if your aim is to lose weight or if you have diabetes and/or high triglycerides levels.

Will I get my needs of calcium if I drink skimmed/ zero fat milk?

Skimmed and semi skimmed milks have more calcium than its full fat versions. In fact, the calcium is in the watery not the creamy part. Choosing lighter versions would be your best choice if you are trying to cut fat from your diet. Children over 5 years can start drinking zero fat milk especially if they suffer from overweight.

Why am I not losing weight even though I am buying all my products fat free and sugar free?

When you read fat free and sugar free on food labels, this doesn’t mean low calorie or calorie-free. Make sure to read the total calorie content of the foods items you consume. When you want to lose weight, you should watch the quality of food you eat but also its quantity. 

I want to stop smoking, but I am scared to gain weight. What should I do?

It is true that unfortunately, nicotine increases your metabolism and curbs your appetite. However, it is not real that you always gain weight when you stop smoking. Chewing sugar-free gum or snacking on vegetable strips can be better alternatives than eating sugary and fatty snacks.

Is it true that natural honey is sugar free, low in calories and does not increase blood sugar levels?

Natural honey contains the same or even higher calories than white sugar. 1 teaspoon of honey has 25 calories versus 20 calories in a teaspoon of sugar; if you like honey, use it in small amounts especially if you are diabetic, it does increases blood sugar levels.

I am on a diet and eating too much salad, is it true that salads are very low in calories?

Salads are not always the best meals to go; a salad can contain more calories than a steak and fries! This happens when you add yellow cheese, fried croutons, bacon, mayonnaise and oily dressings to your salad dish. Choose your vegetables and opt for sauces containing lemon mustard or lemon/vinegar oil.
